A court in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced a man and his wife to life imprisonment for the murder of his daughter in June 2024. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each on the two convicts, according to prosecution officials. District Government Counsel Basant Shukla said the incident took place during the night of June 10-11, 2024, in Tulsipur Madhavganj under the Dhanepur police station area.

According to the prosecution, the victim’s father, Rajesh Shukla, and his wife allegedly attacked the woman with a knife and slit her throat. Following the incident, Rajesh Shukla called the 112 emergency service and claimed that his brothers had assaulted him and his daughter. Police personnel reached the location after receiving the call and took the injured woman to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

After the woman’s death, police sent her body for a post-mortem examination as part of the investigation. Investigators also collected evidence from the crime scene with assistance from a field unit and a dog squad. An FIR was subsequently registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s maternal grandfather, Brij Bihari Mishra. The investigation examined the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and the allegations against the accused.

Following the completion of the investigation and trial proceedings, the court found Rajesh Shukla and his wife guilty and awarded them life imprisonment. The court also directed each convict to pay a fine of Rs 25,000. The sentencing comes more than two years after the incident and concludes the prosecution proceedings in the case, according to officials cited in the report.
