A 27-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Sub-Inspector, Anjali, heroically saved a passenger’s life on Tuesday evening by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in a packed Delhi Metro coach on the Blue Line. The incident occurred between Kirti Nagar and Moti Nagar stations when a man in his 40s, standing behind her, suddenly collapsed, likely due to a cardiac emergency.
Anjali, a member of the CRPF’s 88th Mahila Battalion since joining in 2022 and currently posted at Jantar Mantar for security duties, acted swiftly. As the unconscious man fell to the floor of the crowded train, she administered CPR, reviving him within minutes. The passenger regained consciousness and was safely evacuated at Moti Nagar station for further medical attention, CRPF officials confirmed.
Speaking to reporters, Anjali expressed dismay that no other passengers stepped forward to assist during the crisis, underscoring her quick thinking and training under pressure. CPR, a critical life-saving technique used when a person’s heart stops beating, is part of the standard training for security forces personnel, equipping them to handle such emergencies effectively.
The CRPF lauded her bravery and professionalism. “SI Anjali did a commendable job. The Director General has praised her actions, and she will be suitably rewarded,” said Deputy Inspector General (DIG) M Dhinakaran, the force’s spokesperson. Her intervention not only saved a life but also highlighted the vital role of trained personnel in public spaces.
The incident has drawn attention to the importance of emergency preparedness in urban settings like the Delhi Metro, which serves millions daily. Anjali’s swift response stands as a testament to the CRPF’s commitment to public safety, extending beyond their routine duties to moments of extraordinary valor.
