In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, Punjab Police have dismantled a dangerous weapon smuggling module with deep ties to Pakistan, leading to the arrest of two suspects. The operation, carried out by the Fazilka Police, was triggered by a precise tip-off, uncovering a network that supplied illegal arms to criminal gangs operating within the state.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced the breakthrough on X, revealing that the arrested individuals, Surinder Singh and Gurpreet, were acting under the instructions of foreign-based handlers. Authorities seized five foreign-made pistols and nine magazines during the raid, which took place as the duo attempted to deliver the weapons to local operatives of organized crime syndicates. "Preliminary investigation reveals that the weapons were sourced from Pakistan through a foreign-based entity for use by criminal gangs in Punjab," Yadav stated.
The arrests mark a significant victory in Punjab's ongoing battle against arms trafficking, which has fueled a surge in gang violence and targeted killings in the region. Yadav emphasized that the module's operations were orchestrated from abroad, highlighting the international dimensions of the threat. An FIR has been registered under the Arms Act at the Sadar Police Station in Fazilka, and investigations are intensifying to unravel the full extent of the network, including its supply chains and distribution links.

This bust comes amid heightened security concerns along the India-Pakistan border, where smuggling activities have long posed challenges to law enforcement. Punjab Police have ramped up surveillance and intelligence operations in recent months to curb the influx of illicit weapons, which are often used in feuds between rival gangs. The involvement of Pakistan-based entities raises questions about potential cross-border collaborations in sustaining organized crime.
Yadav assured the public that further probes will aim to dismantle the entire syndicate, apprehending all involved parties and preventing future consignments. The operation underscores the vigilance of Punjab's forces in protecting the state's security and maintaining law and order.
