Prices of commercial LPG cylinders were reduced by up to ₹209 across major cities from August 1, providing relief to businesses that rely on larger cooking gas cylinders. However, there was no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders used by households for cooking purposes. According to reports, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was reduced by ₹202 in Delhi and ₹209 in Kolkata with effect from August 1. After the revision, a 19-kg commercial cylinder will cost around ₹2,872.50 in Kolkata, sources told ANI.
The latest reduction applies only to commercial LPG users, including restaurants, hotels, catering businesses and other establishments that depend on larger cylinders for daily operations. Domestic consumers using household LPG cylinders will continue to pay the existing rates, as oil marketing companies have kept cooking gas prices unchanged. The price revision comes after a series of adjustments made by oil marketing companies in recent months. On July 1, companies had reduced the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹183.50.
Following that reduction, the retail price of a commercial cylinder in Delhi had fallen to around ₹2,930. In the same July revision, the price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder was also reduced by ₹13, bringing its retail price in Delhi to approximately ₹808.50. Such periodic revisions are generally carried out by oil marketing companies based on changes in international energy prices, currency movements and other market factors. Commercial LPG prices are revised regularly, unlike domestic cooking gas rates, which are adjusted separately.

The changes are closely tracked by businesses because LPG costs form a significant part of operating expenses for sectors such as hospitality, food services and small enterprises. The reduction in commercial cylinder prices could help lower input costs for businesses, particularly restaurants and food outlets that use LPG extensively. However, the overall impact on consumer prices may depend on how businesses adjust their operating costs and pricing strategies. For households, there is no immediate change in monthly cooking gas expenses as domestic LPG cylinder prices remain at existing levels.
Domestic LPG rates have a direct impact on household budgets, especially for families that depend primarily on LPG for cooking. Fuel prices, including LPG rates, are reviewed periodically by oil marketing companies. These revisions are influenced by global crude oil and gas market trends, import costs and other economic factors. The latest reduction in commercial LPG prices comes amid continued monitoring of energy costs by businesses and consumers. While commercial users will benefit from the lower rates, domestic LPG consumers will have to wait for any future revisions by oil marketing companies.
