The Congress party escalated its criticism of Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, explicitly calling for his immediate resignation in response to the Supreme Court's decision to stay its earlier November 20 order that had endorsed a revised definition of the Aravalli hills and range. Senior leader Jairam Ramesh argued that the court's intervention constitutes a comprehensive repudiation of every justification presented by the minister to support the government's proposed changes.

Ramesh, in a detailed statement shared on X, hailed the Supreme Court's directive as a vital safeguard against potential ecological damage, asserting that it undermines the ministry's attempts to narrow the scope of protected areas within the ancient mountain chain. He portrayed the stay as evidence of judicial oversight correcting executive overreach in environmental policy matters.

In correspondence sent to Yadav the previous day, Ramesh articulated apprehensions that the redefinition—restricting Aravalli hills to elevations of 100 meters or more above local relief—would fragment the range and compromise its geographical continuity. He posed pointed questions regarding the scientific basis and long-term consequences, while noting unified opposition from authoritative bodies such as the Forest Survey of India, the Supreme Court's own Central Empowered Committee, and the court-appointed amicus curiae.

The Supreme Court has suspended implementation of its prior acceptance of the environment ministry committee's recommendations, which included proximity-based criteria for classifying ranges. In its place, the court has mandated the establishment of a high-powered committee of domain experts tasked with conducting an exhaustive, multidisciplinary examination of the entire issue to ensure a more robust framework.

Congress representatives committed to ongoing vigilance and resistance against perceived governmental efforts to facilitate mining, real estate expansion, and industrial activities in the ecologically critical Aravalli region, viewing the court's action as a provisional victory that demands persistent advocacy to secure permanent protection.
