Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday flagged off the first batch of pilgrims for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 from Tanakpur, marking the official start of the annual spiritual journey through the Lipulekh route. A total of 49 devotees began their pilgrimage towards Lipulekh and Gunji amid ceremonial arrangements and traditional welcomes.
The Chief Minister received the pilgrims with traditional offerings and extended his best wishes for a safe, smooth and spiritually fulfilling journey. He described Uttarakhand as “Devbhoomi,” emphasising its deep association with Lord Shiva and its significance as a major centre of Hindu pilgrimage. CM Dhami said the state takes pride in hosting devotees from across the country and remains committed to ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey.
Officials confirmed that the first batch includes 49 pilgrims from different parts of India. The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) has completed arrangements for accommodation, reception and logistical support along the route. Authorities have also strengthened coordination mechanisms to manage the high-altitude journey and ensure proper facilities at transit points.

According to officials, a total of 10 batches will depart from Tanakpur over the next 18 days as part of the scheduled Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026. District administration teams have been instructed to ensure seamless arrangements, including health support, travel coordination and emergency preparedness for the pilgrims undertaking the challenging route.
Speaking to reporters, CM Dhami reiterated that the pilgrimage holds immense religious importance and reflects the spiritual heritage of Uttarakhand. He said it was a matter of pride for the state to send devotees on this sacred journey and expressed hope that the yatra would be conducted safely and smoothly without disruptions.
Among the pilgrims, participants expressed excitement and emotional fulfilment at embarking on the journey. A 21-year-old pilgrim from Gujarat described it as a lifelong dream coming true, while others from Rajasthan and Karnataka shared their previous pilgrimage experiences and expressed hope for a safe and blessed journey to Kailash Mansarovar.
