A devastating flash flood in Nepal's northern Rasuwa district has caused extensive destruction, with terrifying videos showing floodwaters sweeping away a bridge within seconds. The Bhote Koshi river surged through the area on Wednesday morning, carrying huge amounts of muddy water and debris. The flooding severely affected Timure Bazaar and the customs area near the Rasuwa border crossing, damaging vital infrastructure and leaving several areas cut off.

Visuals from the affected area show powerful floodwaters rapidly engulfing a bridge before tearing it apart and carrying it downstream. The structure was reportedly overwhelmed in around 30 seconds as the force of the water intensified. The videos have highlighted the scale and speed of the disaster, with buildings and other structures also threatened or swept away by the rushing waters.

At least 16 people have died in the flash floods, according to the information available in the report. Roads and power infrastructure have also suffered significant damage, complicating movement and access to affected areas. The destruction has created major challenges for emergency teams working to reach communities impacted by the sudden flooding.

The Bhote Koshi river originates in Tibet before flowing into Nepal and eventually joining the Trishuli river. The Trishuli is part of the river system that continues into India as the Gandak River. The geography of the region, combined with the sudden surge of water, contributed to the widespread impact across settlements and infrastructure in Rasuwa.

Timure Bazaar and the customs area at the Rasuwa border crossing have been among the worst-affected locations. The border area is an important point for movement between Nepal and China, making damage to roads and infrastructure particularly significant. The destruction of bridges and roads has added to the difficulties faced by authorities and residents following the floods.
