A wave of bomb threat emails over the past week has thrown Chennai into a state of repeated alarms, with top political leaders and film celebrities among the targets. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Governor R.N. Ravi, actors Vijay and Trisha, and the BJP’s state headquarters were all listed in recent hoax alerts, sparking widescale police searches.
On Friday morning, a fresh email claimed explosives were planted at 10 locations, including the Chief Minister’s Alwarpet residence, the Governor’s house in Guindy, Vijay’s residence in Kottivakkam, Trisha’s Teynampet home, and the BJP office in T. Nagar. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad teams, police units, and sniffer dogs were rushed to the sites, but nothing suspicious was found.
At actress Trisha’s residence specifically, security checks were carried out while she was present inside. Meanwhile, the BJP headquarters received three separate threats in a single day, intensifying security concerns.

Authorities confirmed that at least 35 such emails have reached police officials in the last seven days, including warnings targeting the US Consulate and residences of actor-politician S.V. Shekher. All turned out to be hoaxes after repeated searches.
The cybercrime wing has now taken control of the probe to trace the source of the emails and identify those responsible. Police have registered cases under stringent legal provisions and issued stern warnings of strict action against anyone spreading panic through false messages.
