Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to revolutionize connectivity in Jharkhand with three major projects worth Rs 1,573 crore, as part of its nationwide 4G rollout initiative. Announced on the eve of BSNL’s silver jubilee, these projects align with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat vision, leveraging indigenous technology to enhance telecom infrastructure. Chief General Manager (CGMT) BSNL Jharkhand, Vipul Agarwal, revealed the details during a press conference in Ranchi, emphasizing the state’s pivotal role in this transformative endeavor.
The flagship 4G Saturation Project, funded under the Centre’s Digital Bharat Nidhi scheme, targets 2,750 remote and uncovered villages in Jharkhand. BSNL plans to install 755 towers to deliver 4G services, with 652 already operational. Agarwal highlighted that these efforts, supported by the Jharkhand government’s assistance in land acquisition, will soon pave the way for a seamless upgrade to 5G services, ensuring robust and future-ready connectivity for rural communities.
In parallel, BSNL is upgrading 816 towers in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas under the LWE Phase-I Project, also backed by Digital Bharat Nidhi. To date, 248 of these towers have been successfully upgraded to 4G, enhancing secure and reliable communication in challenging regions. These upgrades are critical for improving access to digital services and fostering socio-economic development in areas previously hindered by poor connectivity.

Nationally, BSNL’s 4G rollout, set to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 27, 2025, from Odisha, includes 97,500 mobile towers built at a cost of Rs 37,000 crore. Agarwal emphasized that BSNL’s commitment to affordability and trust positions it to serve every customer with dignity. The recent success of the Rupee One Freedom Plan, which added over 50,000 new mobile customers in Jharkhand between August 1 and September 15, underscores the growing demand for BSNL’s services.
The initiatives mark a significant milestone as BSNL celebrates 25 years of service. With a clear roadmap to 5G and a focus on indigenous technology, BSNL Jharkhand is poised to deliver secure, reliable, and affordable networks, bridging the digital divide and empowering citizens and enterprises alike. GM BSNL Ranchi, Umesh Prasad, and other officials joined Agarwal at the press conference, reaffirming BSNL’s dedication to transforming Jharkhand’s telecom landscape.
