Three detainees, including two Pakistani nationals, escaped from the Juvenile Observation Home in RS Pura, Jammu, on Monday evening after allegedly attacking and injuring two police officers stationed at the facility, authorities said. The incident has triggered a massive manhunt and heightened security operations in the sensitive border region near Pakistan.
The breakout occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. when the three inmates, identified by police as Ahsan Anwar and Mohammad Sanaullah — both Pakistani nationals — and Karanjit Singh alias Gugga, a local resident of RS Pura, allegedly assaulted two on‑duty police personnel before fleeing the facility.
Two policemen — Special Police Officer (SPO) Vinay Kumar and Head Constable Parveen Kumar — were injured during the confrontation and were rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for treatment, where they are reported to be in stable condition, officials said.

Following the escape, Jammu police, along with paramilitary units and the Border Security Force (BSF), launched an extensive search and raid operation to locate and apprehend the fugitives. Temporary checkpoints have been established on major routes in and around RS Pura to screen vehicles and commuters, and special police teams are conducting raids at multiple locations.
Officials have also initiated an investigation to determine how the inmates obtained firearms inside the juvenile home. A video circulating on social media appeared to show one of the escapees firing a weapon within the facility, raising serious concerns about a security breach at a detention centre located in a geopolitically sensitive area close to the International Border.
The escape has heightened security alertness across the region, given the involvement of foreign nationals and the proximity to the international border. Senior police officials, including the Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, have visited the site, and authorities are working to tighten surveillance and prevent the fugitives from crossing into neighbouring territory while efforts continue to bring them back into custody.
