A daylight murder outside a well-known private school in Shimla has shocked the hill city, with investigators linking the killing to a family feud that allegedly took a violent turn. Manisha Mittal, the 41-year-old administrator of Saraswati Paradise International Public School in Sanjauli, was shot dead outside the school gate on June 13. Police investigations have since focused on the circumstances surrounding the attack and the alleged family dispute behind it.

At around 6 pm, Manisha walked out of the main gate of the school and entered the narrow mountain pathway connecting the entrance to the main road. Two masked men suddenly appeared on the path and approached her. According to accounts of the incident, one of the attackers shot her from behind before the second assailant fired at her from the front, causing her to collapse near the school entrance.

The attack took place on a holiday when the school premises were largely empty, leaving few witnesses to the killing. The only person present near the entrance was the school’s security guard, Yashpal, who saw the masked attackers. He later recalled being unable to react as the incident unfolded within moments, with the two men appearing suddenly, opening fire and fleeing before he could intervene.

Yashpal said the attackers were masked and appeared without warning on the narrow pathway. “I froze,” he recalled, describing how quickly the shooting took place. By the time he understood what was happening, Manisha had already been shot and the assailants were running away. The isolated location and the absence of students and staff on the holiday added to the difficulty of immediately pursuing the attackers.

The killing triggered a major police investigation in Shimla, with officers examining the crime scene and attempting to reconstruct the movements of the assailants. The circumstances surrounding the attack suggested that it was not a random act of violence but a planned killing. Investigators later began examining a family feud that had allegedly intensified over time and was suspected to have played a central role in the murder.

The case has drawn attention because of the calculated nature of the attack and the location in which it occurred. A school administrator was killed in daylight just outside the institution where she worked, while a lone witness watched helplessly as the masked gunmen escaped. The investigation into the family dispute and the events leading to the shooting continues as police work to establish the complete sequence behind the murder.
