The 40-year-old nephew of a Bharatiya Janata Party leader was allegedly beaten to death by his friend in Haryana’s Rewari district over suspicions that he was having an illicit relationship with the accused’s wife. Police have arrested the main accused, Praveen alias Papla, and his nephew Aman in connection with the murder.

The victim, identified as Jitendra, was found dead in a blood-soaked condition on September 7 near the HPCL refinery along a deserted road leading towards Bhadawas. Police observed deep injuries on his head, suggesting that a heavy weapon had been used in the attack. The circumstances of the discovery prompted investigators to examine the victim’s recent movements and possible personal disputes.

According to police, Praveen allegedly planned the murder after becoming suspicious of Jitendra’s relationship with his wife. On the day of the incident, Praveen reportedly called Jitendra on the pretext of attending a beer party. He first took him to a liquor shop before the two proceeded to a canal bridge, where they consumed beer together.

Police said Praveen later drove Jitendra and his nephew Aman towards an isolated road near the HPCL refinery. When Jitendra got out of the vehicle, Praveen allegedly attacked him repeatedly on the head with an iron rod, causing fatal injuries. Aman is accused of standing guard while the assault took place. A CCTV camera installed near the location reportedly captured the incident.

Following the murder, Rewari Superintendent of Police Hemendra Kumar Meena directed police teams to investigate the case. The teams worked jointly and detained Praveen and Aman after suspicions raised by Jitendra’s family were supported by technical evidence. During questioning, Praveen allegedly confessed that he suspected Jitendra of having an illicit relationship with his wife, police said.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Deepika Agrawal said both accused were produced before a court, which sent them to three days of police remand. Investigators are now seeking to recover the vehicle allegedly used to transport Jitendra and the iron rod believed to have been used in the attack. Further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events and determine the roles of both accused.
