Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on June 22 raised concerns over Punjab’s law and order situation, increasing gangster activity, the drug menace, and the migration of youth, describing them as serious challenges facing the state. Addressing a meeting of party office-bearers, current and former MPs, MLAs, and district presidents in Ludhiana, he called for stronger grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Nabin said Punjab requires a “double-engine government” and urged party workers to intensify efforts to expand the BJP’s organisational presence across the state. He expressed confidence in the party’s preparations to contest all 117 Assembly seats and emphasized that strengthening the organisation is a shared responsibility of all leaders and workers rather than that of a few office-bearers alone.
During his address, the BJP leader criticised the functioning of the state government, alleging that ordinary citizens face difficulties in getting legitimate work completed and claiming that corruption and administrative inefficiencies have become major public concerns. He argued that Punjab’s economic and industrial revival would be difficult without addressing these issues and establishing a government aligned with the Centre.

Nabin also stressed the importance of booth-level workers, describing them as the foundation of the party’s electoral strength. He urged senior leaders to maintain close coordination with grassroots workers and announced the need for a major statewide campaign against drug trafficking, which he said has emerged as one of Punjab’s most pressing social problems.
The meeting also included discussions with representatives from various industries, who highlighted challenges affecting Punjab’s economy. Industrialists from Mandi Gobindgarh raised concerns about alleged GST billing irregularities in the iron recycling sector, while representatives of the bicycle industry called for fresh policy planning to improve competitiveness. Stakeholders from the agro-combine and rice milling sectors also highlighted operational and cost-related challenges impacting their businesses.
Political observers view Nabin’s visit as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in Punjab following its split from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The party is seeking to expand its support base ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with leaders emphasizing both organisational growth and economic development as key priorities for the state.
