Mumbai Police have uncovered fresh details in the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area, revealing the use of high-calibre ammunition and a well-planned delivery chain. At least five 7.62 mm bullets were fired at Shetty Tower late on Sunday night, according to sources. The attack has been claimed by a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, raising serious security concerns. Following the incident, security around the filmmaker has been significantly tightened.
Investigators say a highly sophisticated country-made firearm was used in the attack. The 7.62 mm bullet is considered extremely lethal due to its high velocity and deep penetration capability. Forensic teams are attempting to recover shell casings to determine whether the weapon used 7.62×39 mm or 7.62×51 mm ammunition. A detailed forensic report is awaited and is expected to play a key role in linking the weapon to previous crimes.
Mumbai Police believe the shooter was not acting alone and was supported by other gang members. Crime Branch officials are working to map the Bishnoi gang’s operational structure and identify additional suspects involved in the planning and execution of the firing. An online post, allegedly linked to the gang, named Subham Lonkar, Arzoo Bishnoi, Hari Boxer, and Harman Shandu as being connected to the incident. Police are verifying the authenticity of these claims.

So far, four accused have been arrested—Swapnil Sakat, Siddharth Yenpure, Samarth Pomaji, and Aditya Gayki. Sources said Lonkar, also an accused in the Baba Siddique murder case, was the mastermind and remains at large. Yenpure and Sakat allegedly received ₹10,000 for delivering a scooter from Pune to Mumbai, which was later used by the shooters. Investigators are scrutinising bank accounts and transaction trails to establish financial links.
Police also traced the escape route of one of the shooters, who reportedly fled using an auto-rickshaw after the firing. While one auto driver refused to help, another later dropped the suspect near Vile Parle railway station, according to statements recorded by the police. In response to the incident, Rohit Shetty’s security has been enhanced, with additional personnel deployed at his residence and for his personal protection. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.
