A tragic accident was reported from Delhi’s Janakpuri area on Thursday, where a biker lost his life after falling into a deep pit dug on a public road. The incident occurred near the Janakpuri District Centre, where construction work linked to the Delhi Jal Board was reportedly underway. The pit, described by locals as pool-sized, proved fatal for the rider.
Photos circulating on social media show the victim lying at the bottom of the pit alongside his Apache RTR 200 motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet, riding jacket, and gloves at the time of the accident, indicating he was equipped with safety gear. Despite this, the fall caused fatal injuries.
The deceased was identified as Kamal, an Assistant Manager at HDFC Bank’s Rohini branch. According to his family, Kamal was returning home late Wednesday night and had informed his twin brother that he would reach home within ten minutes. Shortly after, his phone became unreachable, causing concern.

Family members said they searched for Kamal throughout the night and visited multiple police stations. Police later shared his last known location near the Janakpuri District Centre, but he could not be traced immediately. Several hours later, the family was informed that his body had been found at the construction site.
The incident triggered political reactions, with AAP leader and former MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj criticising the Delhi government over road safety and infrastructure management. He alleged negligence and claimed authorities had failed to learn from similar recent incidents in the region.
In response, the Delhi government announced a joint inspection involving senior officials from the district administration, police, and the Public Works Department. Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood ordered an investigation, while the Delhi Jal Board stated that barricades and safety mesh were in place and a committee had been formed to examine compliance with safety norms.
