Maharashtra’s Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced on Saturday that the state government will remove encroachments on approach roads to agricultural fields and map these pathways to enhance farmers’ access and boost their income. Speaking to reporters during the ongoing Seva Pandharwada (service fortnight), Bawankule outlined a comprehensive plan to improve rural infrastructure, including the introduction of the Chief Minister Baliraja Paddy Road Scheme within the next six months.
Under this initiative, the government will construct concrete roads to farmlands, ensuring better connectivity for farmers to transport produce and access markets. The revenue department, in collaboration with district administrations, will clear encroachments to restore these vital pathways. Bawankule emphasized that the state will also plant “scheduled trees” along these roads, requiring special permission to fell, to promote environmental sustainability while improving infrastructure.
To support farmers further, revenue officials will conduct village camps to update 7/12 extracts, a critical land ownership document, enabling farmers to access various government schemes. Bawankule claimed this initiative is the first of its kind in India, aiming to provide farmers with essential facilities like water, electricity, and accessible roads. Additionally, the government is addressing urban land issues by regularizing land in slum pockets within civic corporation limits.

In a separate environmental measure, Bawankule mandated that 50% of sand used in government construction projects must be artificial M-sand to reduce reliance on natural sand. He urged districts to initiate at least 50 such projects to promote sustainable construction practices. These combined efforts reflect Maharashtra’s commitment to supporting its agricultural community and promoting sustainable development.
