After missing several deadlines, the 7.5-km Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere stretch of Bengaluru Metro’s Pink Line is now ready for inauguration. Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the State government is hopeful that the Centre will approve an inauguration date within September. The completed section is expected to add another operational segment to the city’s expanding Metro network and improve connectivity along the southern part of the corridor.

The Pink Line is a 21.3-km Metro corridor connecting Kalena Agrahara in south Bengaluru with Nagawara in the northern part of the city. The corridor is an important component of Bengaluru’s ongoing Metro expansion and is expected to provide a direct connection across several key areas. The opening of the completed southern stretch will mark a significant step towards bringing the larger corridor into service.

Gowda said the 7.5-km section is ready to be opened to passengers and that the inauguration will take place once the Government of India provides an official date. He said the State is prepared to open the stretch for public commuting as soon as the Centre finalises the schedule. The minister made the remarks while speaking about the progress of the new addition to Bengaluru’s Metro network.

The minister, along with Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Rizwan Arshad, inspected works at the Pink Line’s Kamaraja Junction Metro Tunnel. Officials briefed the ministers about the project and the status of the completed works during the inspection. The visit came as preparations continue for the opening of the section following delays that pushed the project beyond several earlier deadlines.

The Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere section is part of the larger Pink Line project, which is intended to strengthen public transport connectivity across Bengaluru. Once operational, the corridor will provide another cross-city Metro connection and is expected to support smoother movement between southern and northern parts of the city. The project is also significant for expanding the reach of Bengaluru’s rapid transit network.

With the 7.5-km stretch declared ready, the remaining step before passenger services begin is the announcement of the inauguration date by the Centre. The State government expects the opening to take place during September, subject to the date being approved. The launch will allow commuters to use the completed section while work and preparations for the broader Pink Line continue.
