In a chilling incident that has left Bengaluru reeling, a 29-year-old man, Dharmaseelan Ramesh, allegedly murdered his 27-year-old wife, Manju P, by stabbing her approximately 45 times before taking his own life in their apartment on Sunday. The brutal crime, driven by suspected workplace jealousy, unfolded in a multi-storey building in the city, where the couple had recently been living together.
Manju, a dedicated nurse working at two hospitals in Bengaluru, hailed from Kallakurchi district in Tamil Nadu. She married Dharmaseelan, a native of Viluppuram, in September 2022. After spending a year in Tamil Nadu, Dharmaseelan moved to Dubai for work, while Manju relocated to Bengaluru to continue her nursing career, living with her father, Periyaswamy, a mason. The couple had no children.
The tragedy began to unfold when Dharmaseelan returned from Dubai a month ago. After spending two weeks with Manju in Tamil Nadu, she returned to Bengaluru to resume her job. Dharmaseelan joined her, informing her father on Thursday of his plan to stay in Bengaluru permanently. The couple rented a third-floor apartment, where the horrific events transpired.

On Sunday evening, Periyaswamy returned home around 8:30 pm with his nephew but found the apartment door locked and unresponsive. Using a spare key obtained from the building owner, they entered around 9:30 pm to a nightmarish scene: Manju’s lifeless body lay in a pool of blood on the bed, her throat slit and body riddled with stab wounds, while Dharmaseelan was found hanging nearby.
Police investigations suggest the murder occurred in the afternoon. A senior officer revealed that Dharmaseelan likely slit Manju’s throat before inflicting multiple stab wounds across her body, some possibly after her death. The sheer brutality of the attack, with around 45 injuries, has shocked investigators. Family members disclosed that Dharmaseelan harboured suspicions about Manju’s interactions with male colleagues at her workplace, which police believe may have triggered the violent outburst.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and grief, raising questions about domestic violence and the devastating consequences of unchecked jealousy. As Bengaluru mourns the loss of Manju, a talented nurse whose life was cut short, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to this tragic murder-suicide, leaving a community in shock and a family shattered.
