A diamond-encrusted gold ring featuring hundreds of precious stones was presented this week in Brussels by the Antwerp diamond industry to the United States ambassador to Belgium, Bill White, intended as a ceremonial gift for US President Donald Trump during events marking America’s 250th anniversary.
The ring, described as “watch-sized,” is embedded with 321 diamonds, 56 sapphires, 13 emeralds, and six rubies. Its design includes symbolic engravings such as two large “T” initials alongside the Stars and Stripes, the years “1776” and “2026,” and the numbers “45” and “47” arranged in a Superman-style emblem. A diamond-studded eagle holding an olive branch and a ruby shield also features prominently above the inscription “250 YEARS USA” engraved in 18-karat gold.
The gift was presented on behalf of the Antwerp World Diamond Center (AWDC) by its president Isidore Morsel, representing the centuries-old diamond trade hub of Antwerp, Belgium. The gesture comes months after the Belgian diamond sector benefited from the removal of US tariffs on diamond imports, a move the industry described as a major boost for its exports to the United States.

During a commemorative event in Brussels, US Ambassador Bill White received the ring on a star-spangled stage. US President Donald Trump appeared via prerecorded video message, thanking the Antwerp diamond community for what he called a “magnificent Freedom 250 ring.” Officials confirmed that the ring has not yet been physically handed over to Trump but is expected to be delivered through diplomatic channels.
The presentation also drew attention to broader ethical questions surrounding gifts to US presidents. American officials have discretion over accepting personal gifts, while foreign government gifts are generally restricted under constitutional provisions unless Congress approves them. The Trump administration’s recent financial disclosure reportedly included other high-value items, drawing scrutiny from ethics experts who say such practices diverge from long-standing White House norms.
Independent estimates place the ring’s value between $25,000 and $35,000, though organizers did not release an official figure. The Brussels event, which featured performances and corporate sponsorships from major global firms, underscored both the ceremonial significance of the 250th anniversary celebrations and the continued intersection of diplomacy, trade, and symbolic luxury gifting.
