US President Donald Trump has said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "knows who the boss is" while confirming that the Israeli leader has requested a meeting at the White House. Trump indicated that the high-level talks could take place as early as next week, following his return from the upcoming NATO summit, as the two allies seek to discuss key regional and bilateral issues.
Speaking during a phone interview, Trump described his relationship with Netanyahu as "very good" but suggested that he holds considerable influence over the Israeli prime minister. "He knows who the boss is," Trump remarked, commenting on the close working relationship between the two leaders. His statement came amid reports that Netanyahu had sought a meeting in Washington to continue discussions on issues affecting the United States and Israel.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu spoke with Trump by telephone on Friday to congratulate the United States on its 250th Independence Day celebrations. During the conversation, Netanyahu reportedly described the United States as a "guarantor of global freedom" and reaffirmed Israel's appreciation for the longstanding partnership between the two countries. The two leaders also agreed to hold an in-person meeting in the United States in the near future, although an official date has yet to be announced.

Trump also addressed developments involving Iran during the interview, saying diplomatic engagement with Tehran had slowed during the country's period of mourning. While he did not elaborate on the specific circumstances, his remarks suggested that regional developments and Iran's role in the Middle East are likely to feature prominently if the proposed White House meeting with Netanyahu goes ahead. The United States and Israel have maintained close coordination on issues related to regional security, Iran's nuclear programme and broader geopolitical challenges.
If confirmed, the meeting would mark another high-profile engagement between Trump and Netanyahu at a time of heightened attention to Middle East diplomacy and security. The United States remains Israel's closest strategic ally, with both governments regularly consulting on defence, intelligence and regional policy. Officials from both sides are expected to finalise the meeting schedule in the coming days, with discussions likely to focus on bilateral cooperation, regional stability and ongoing diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.
