A major public health crisis has emerged in Taunsa after an undercover investigation revealed widespread infection-control failures at THQ Hospital Taunsa, where unsafe injection practices are believed to have contributed to an outbreak of HIV among children.
The findings come from a BBC News investigation that documented alleged hygiene violations inside the hospital, including the reuse of syringes and improper handling of medical equipment. According to the report, hidden camera footage captured hospital staff reusing syringes on multi-dose vials and administering injections without proper sterile precautions, raising serious concerns about patient safety.
At the centre of the outbreak is the case of eight-year-old Mohammed Amin, who died shortly after being diagnosed with HIV. His family reported that he suffered severe fever and pain before his death, and that his younger sister later tested positive as well. The family believes both children were infected through contaminated injections given during routine treatment at the hospital.

The investigation claims that at least 331 children tested positive for HIV in Taunsa between November 2024 and October 2025. Medical experts cited in the report warned that unsafe practices such as reusing syringes—even when needles are changed—can still transmit infection due to contamination of the syringe body and shared medication vials.
Footage reportedly recorded over 32 hours showed multiple breaches of standard medical protocols, including the reuse of syringes on multi-dose vials, open medication containers, used needles left exposed, and inadequate disposal of medical waste. Health experts described these practices as highly dangerous and capable of rapidly spreading blood-borne infections in clinical settings.
Hospital authorities, however, have denied any wrongdoing. The medical superintendent of THQ Hospital Taunsa, Dr Qasim Buzdar, questioned the authenticity of the footage and suggested it may have been misrepresented or recorded outside his tenure, insisting that the facility maintains proper safety standards and infection control protocols.
