Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Monday described his strong lead in the Bankipur Assembly by-election as a victory of the people of the constituency and launched a sharp attack on the BJP leadership and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. His remarks came during the ongoing vote counting, where Jan Suraaj candidate Kishor maintained a significant advantage over his rivals.

By the end of the 29th round of counting, Kishor had secured 61,075 votes, while BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha received 42,111 votes, giving Jan Suraaj a lead of 18,964 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta was placed third with 13,625 votes. The counting process is scheduled to continue for 31 rounds, with the final result yet to be declared officially.

Addressing the media amid the favourable counting trends, Kishor said the election should not be viewed only as a contest between individual candidates. He termed the result trends a message from the people of Bankipur to the BJP’s central leadership and argued that Bihar needs leadership focused on education, employment and development.

Kishor said the emerging outcome was not his personal victory but reflected the aspirations of voters. He thanked those who supported him and added that he would work to gain the confidence of those who voted against him. He also urged Jan Suraaj supporters to remain patient and monitor the remaining counting rounds until the final declaration.

Targeting the Bihar government, Kishor criticised Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s leadership and claimed that welfare schemes alone cannot resolve the state’s deeper challenges. He highlighted issues such as employment opportunities, quality education, healthcare facilities and law and order, stating that people are seeking long-term development-oriented governance.

Kishor also criticised the Centre’s development policies, arguing that resources and opportunities should be distributed equally among states. If the current trend continues, the Bankipur by-election could become a major political milestone for Jan Suraaj and Prashant Kishor, who is contesting an Assembly election for the first time.
