Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to make waves in Goa on October 4, launching the state’s transformative Mhaje Ghar housing scheme and inaugurating a slew of infrastructure projects, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Tuesday. The high-profile visit underscores the central government’s commitment to bolstering development in the coastal state, with Shah arriving in the evening to address a public gathering at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Panaji.
The Mhaje Ghar scheme, a flagship initiative of the Goa government, aims to revolutionize housing access by granting ownership rights to beneficiaries across various categories. Described as an umbrella program, it encompasses multiple measures, including the regularization of houses built on government and community-owned land. “This scheme is a game-changer for Goans, ensuring secure homeownership for thousands,” Sawant told reporters, emphasizing its role in addressing long-standing housing challenges in the state.
Beyond the housing initiative, Shah will virtually inaugurate several infrastructure projects poised to elevate Goa’s urban and tourism landscape. Among them are the Prashasan Sthamb, a modern administrative hub designed to streamline governance, and the Unity Mall, a commercial complex aimed at boosting local trade and tourism. Additionally, the upgradation of the scenic Harvalem waterfall is expected to enhance its appeal as a prime tourist destination, drawing visitors to its natural splendor. Other projects on the list promise to improve connectivity, public services, and the state’s overall infrastructure framework.

Sawant highlighted the significance of Shah’s visit, noting that it reflects the synergy between the state and central governments in driving Goa’s growth. “The Union Home Minister’s presence will inspire confidence in our development vision,” he said, adding that the projects align with the state’s goal of sustainable progress and inclusive welfare.
The public meeting at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium is expected to draw large crowds, with Shah likely to outline the broader vision behind these initiatives. As Goa gears up for this landmark event, anticipation is high for the impact of Mhaje Ghar and the infrastructure upgrades, which promise to reshape the state’s socio-economic landscape for years to come.
