In a scathing attack, Congress leader Manish Tewari has called for the government to reclaim Air India from the Tata Group, branding its privatization a catastrophic failure. Tewari, the Chandigarh MP, took to X to lambast the conglomerate, alleging that non-aviation experts from Tata’s tea, steel, and automotive divisions are mismanaging the airline, leading to rampant flight cancellations and delays.
“Air India is a management disaster,” Tewari posted, claiming that seasoned aviation professionals have been sidelined. “Flights are canceled without notice, delayed without reason. The crew and pilots confirm the chaos—tea and car makers are running the show, not aviation experts.”
The Tata Group, which acquired Air India in January 2022 after a competitive bidding process, has yet to respond to Tewari’s allegations. The Congress leader’s remarks have reignited debate over the privatization of the national carrier, with critics pointing to operational woes as evidence of mismanagement.
