Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. has crossed the significant milestone of handling 500 million tonnes of cargo, marking a major achievement in the company’s growth journey and reinforcing its position as India’s largest integrated port and logistics operator. The development highlights the company’s rapid expansion from a single-port operation into a vast multi-modal infrastructure network.
Commenting on the milestone, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, described ports as more than just trade gateways, calling them symbols of national confidence and economic progress. He credited customers, partners, employees, and policymakers for their support, emphasising that the achievement reflects long-term belief in India’s growth trajectory.
The company’s growth has been marked by accelerating execution over the years. While it took APSEZ 16 years to reach its first 100 million tonnes of cargo, each subsequent milestone has been achieved at a faster pace. This trend underscores improvements in operational efficiency, infrastructure expansion, and the company’s ability to scale its logistics ecosystem effectively.

From its origins as a port developer, APSEZ has transformed into a fully integrated transport and logistics platform. Its network now includes 19 ports and terminals across India and overseas, along with rail and road connectivity, warehousing facilities, and cargo handling infrastructure. The platform reportedly connects around 95% of India’s hinterland, strengthening its role in national trade and supply chains.
The company’s infrastructure footprint includes 15 domestic ports, four international ports, multiple logistics parks, and a large fleet of trucks and marine assets. This integrated model has enabled APSEZ to handle a significant share of India’s cargo movement while supporting industries and global trade linkages.
With a current capacity exceeding 630 million tonnes per annum and an estimated market share of nearly 28% of India’s port volumes, APSEZ is now aiming for its next major target. The company has set a goal of handling 1 billion tonnes of cargo annually by 2030, positioning itself at the centre of India’s infrastructure-led economic growth.
