The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday released its first list of 14 candidates for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly election, 2026, scheduled to be held on April 9. The announcement marks the party’s initial step in its campaign for the state polls as it seeks to expand its political presence in the northeastern state.
According to the list issued by the party’s Assam state in-charge Rajesh Sarma, all the constituencies included in the first batch are located in the Brahmaputra Valley, a politically significant region that accounts for a large share of the state’s assembly seats. The party has fielded several local leaders and activists in an attempt to build a stronger grassroots presence.
Among the prominent candidates named is AAP’s Assam state vice-president Anurupa Dekaraja, who will contest from the Guwahati Central constituency. Another candidate, Renuka Timungpi, has been nominated to contest from Bokajan, a constituency in the hill district of Karbi Anglong.

The party has also announced several other candidates for key constituencies, including Achyut Das from Naoboicha, Tapan Gogoi from Sivasagar, Zahidul Islam Khan from Chenga, Ranjeet Boro from Nadua, Pallav Saikia from Titabor, and Jinna Amir Hussain from East Goalpara.
The Aam Aadmi Party is yet to win a seat in the Assam Legislative Assembly and is attempting to establish a foothold in the state’s political landscape. Party leaders have said they plan to focus on governance issues such as education, healthcare, employment and anti-corruption measures as part of their campaign agenda.
Notably, AAP will contest the Assam elections without forming an alliance with other opposition parties, opting instead to field its own candidates across multiple constituencies. The party’s leadership has indicated that additional candidate lists are expected to be released in the coming weeks as preparations for the polls gather momentum.
