The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday questioned the timing of a warning issued by the Delhi Chief Minister to private schools over alleged irregularities, arguing that many parents had already purchased books and uniforms for the new academic session.

The party said the advisory, aimed at ensuring compliance with rules related to fee structures and procurement practices, had come too late to provide meaningful relief to families. According to AAP leaders, several schools had already completed admissions and required parents to buy prescribed materials, leaving little room for corrective action after the fact.

The Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, had earlier cautioned private institutions against compelling parents to purchase books and uniforms from specific vendors or charging unauthorised fees. The warning was part of the government’s broader push to regulate private school practices and ease the financial burden on households.

AAP leaders contended that while the intent behind the move may be appropriate, its delayed implementation weakens its impact. They urged the government to adopt a more proactive approach ahead of the academic cycle so that parents are not forced into last-minute or non-compliant purchases.

In response, officials indicated that monitoring mechanisms would be strengthened and that schools found violating norms could face action under existing regulations. The issue of private school fees and associated costs has remained a recurring concern in Delhi, with periodic disputes between parents, school managements, and the government.

The development has sparked fresh debate over regulatory enforcement in the education sector, with stakeholders calling for clearer timelines and stricter oversight to ensure transparency and protect the interests of students and parents alike.
