The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has implemented a significant hike in Aadhaar update fees, effective from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2028. This revision, the first major change in five years, increases costs for updating demographic, biometric, and document details, impacting millions of Aadhaar holders. The new structure aims to offset operational expenses while maintaining free services for specific groups, such as children requiring mandatory biometric updates.
Demographic updates, including changes to name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, or email, now cost Rs 75 when done independently, up from Rs 50. These updates are free if combined with biometric changes, but the fee will rise to Rs 90 starting October 2028. Biometric updates, such as fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs, have increased to Rs 125 from Rs 100, with a further jump to Rs 150 planned post-2028. Document updates, like proof of identity or address, remain free on the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2026, but cost Rs 75 at enrolment centres, up from Rs 50.
To encourage compliance among younger users, UIDAI has waived fees for mandatory biometric updates for children aged 5-7 and 15-17, ensuring their first update is free. For children aged 7-15, biometric updates, typically Rs 125, are free until September 30, 2026, to address backlogs. Newborn enrolments continue to be free, maintaining accessibility for initial registrations.

For those unable to visit enrolment centres, UIDAI offers doorstep services at Rs 700 (including GST) plus applicable update fees. Additional family members at the same address pay Rs 350 each, making home enrolment more affordable for households. Aadhaar printouts via eKYC or similar tools now cost Rs 40, rising to Rs 50 after 2028.
Announced in a September 29 UIDAI memorandum, these changes reflect rising operational costs but include relief measures for timely child updates. Aadhaar holders are urged to use official portals or authorized centres with valid documents to ensure seamless updates and avoid service disruptions.
