A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday when 90-year-old Girraj Sharma was crushed to death instantly under tons of spilling gravel as a heavily loaded dump truck overturned directly onto him while he peacefully sat outside his home enjoying the mild winter sunlight in his residential neighborhood.
The elderly victim, who shared his home with grandson Satish Sharma, remained in his usual spot in front of the house when the construction dump truck approached the area to deliver materials for ongoing work at a neighboring property, only for disaster to strike without warning in broad daylight.
CCTV cameras in the vicinity captured the chilling sequence in full detail, showing the truck's tyre sinking into a deep pothole on the uneven road, causing the vehicle to lose stability, tilt dangerously, and finally topple sideways as Sharma desperately tried to rise from his seat but could not escape the cascading avalanche of gravel that buried him on the spot.

The driver of the dump truck fled the scene immediately after the catastrophic overturn, leaving panicked local residents to rush to the site and urgently summon police from Bahodapur station, whose officers arrived promptly to extricate the lifeless body from beneath the wreckage and formally seize the vehicle for investigation.
Authorities, including Additional Superintendent of Police Jayraj Kuber, confirmed that recent water pipeline installation had left the soil excessively wet and unstable, directly contributing to the loss of traction, while the body was sent for mandatory post-mortem examination and a manhunt launched for the absconding driver as the incident reignited urgent concerns over road safety, pothole hazards, and heavy vehicle operations in densely populated residential areas.
