A 70-year-old woman died after being run over by a train on a railway bridge in the Jamui Bazaar area of Mirzapur district on Monday morning, police officials said. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Chunar police station and is being treated as an accidental death based on preliminary findings.
The deceased has been identified as Chadri Devi, a resident of Ahraura. According to the police, she had left her home on Sunday night following a domestic dispute. Family members reportedly searched for her after she failed to return, but her whereabouts remained unknown through the night.
On Monday at around 6 am, Chadri Devi was struck by a passing train while on the rail bridge near Jamui Bazaar. The impact proved fatal, and she died on the spot, police said. Railway and local police personnel were alerted soon after the incident and reached the location to secure the area.

Meanwhile, the woman’s son, who had been looking for her since she went missing, arrived in Jamui Bazaar after hearing about the incident. Upon reaching the site, he identified the body as that of his mother, confirming her identity to the authorities.
Police officials said that the body has been sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and to complete legal formalities. Statements from family members are also being recorded as part of the standard procedure in such cases.
Further investigation is underway, and police said they are examining all circumstances surrounding the incident. No foul play has been suspected so far, officials added, noting that the findings of the postmortem report will help establish additional clarity.
