Kolkata Police arrested six individuals in two separate theft cases on Saturday, following surprise city inspections by Commissioner of Police Supratim Sarkar to monitor law and order. The arrests highlight the proactive measures undertaken by the force to crack down on crime and increase public safety during busy hours.
Four of the arrested, all residents of Anand in Gujarat, were apprehended from the Hastings area by the 'Watch' branch of the Intelligence Department based at Lalbazar. They have been identified as Anil Ramju Salat, Dhiru Kalobhai Salat, Sameerbhai Salat, and Raju Kumar, and face charges in a theft case registered at Jorasanko police station on January 14. Police had been actively searching for them over the past month.
In a separate case, two accused were arrested from the Park Circus area in connection with a theft reported at Girish Park police station on January 20. The suspects, Mohammad Shahnawaz, alias Sunny, and Mohammad Sameer, residents of the Entally area, are accused of stealing cash and mobile phones from a cab driver while he slept in his vehicle.

All six accused were scheduled to be produced in court on Sunday, according to police sources. The arrests are part of a wider initiative to make police presence more visible during peak hours, following instructions issued by Commissioner Sarkar during the monthly crime prevention meeting earlier this month.
Commissioner Sarkar personally visited various city locations on Saturday to assess patrolling efficiency and law enforcement implementation. The coordinated operations underline Kolkata Police’s commitment to swiftly address crimes reported in the city and maintain public confidence in policing efforts.
