Polling in the Bagalkot by-elections remained largely peaceful on voting day, with a voter turnout of 43.69 per cent recorded till 1 pm, according to election officials.Authorities reported that voting proceeded smoothly across most polling stations, with only a few minor incidents that were quickly brought under control. Security arrangements had been heightened in sensitive areas to ensure free and fair polling, and officials said the overall situation remained well within control throughout the first half of the day.
Voters were seen turning up steadily since morning, with participation expected to rise further as the day progressed. Election officials expressed confidence that the turnout would increase significantly by the close of polling, as is typically observed in by-elections where afternoon and evening voting sees a surge.
The bypoll has drawn attention due to its political significance, with major parties fielding candidates in what is being seen as a closely watched contest. While the turnout figure till early afternoon reflects moderate participation, party workers on the ground continued efforts to mobilise voters in the remaining hours.
