Global brokerage firms have maintained a positive outlook on Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) following the company's Q1 FY27 financial results, despite margin pressures weighing on its quarterly performance. Analysts said BPCL's strong operational execution and resilient refining business helped offset challenges faced by its marketing segment. While earnings remained under pressure due to volatile crude oil prices and elevated input costs, institutional investors continue to view the state-run oil marketing company favourably based on its underlying operational strength.
Citi reiterated its "Buy" rating on BPCL with a target price of Rs 350 per share, citing the company's strong operational performance during the quarter. The brokerage noted that BPCL demonstrated superior execution by effectively managing throughput and operations despite a challenging macroeconomic environment. Citi also reaffirmed BPCL as its preferred pick within the oil marketing company (OMC) sector, highlighting confidence in the company's long-term fundamentals and ability to navigate industry headwinds.
Macquarie also maintained an "Outperform" rating on the stock and assigned a higher target price of Rs 370 per share. According to the brokerage, BPCL's marketing business remained under pressure as rising crude oil costs could not be fully passed on to consumers, resulting in lower marketing margins. However, stronger-than-expected refining performance helped cushion the impact on overall earnings. Macquarie further observed that BPCL's supply position remains stable, supporting operational continuity despite ongoing market volatility.

Both brokerages cautioned that fluctuations in global crude oil prices are likely to continue influencing the earnings of oil marketing companies in the near term. Nevertheless, they believe BPCL's operational resilience, refining strength and stable supply chain position it well to withstand market challenges. While the outlook remains subject to commodity price movements and government fuel pricing policies, analysts continue to see value in the stock for investors with a medium- to long-term investment horizon.
