Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-ups has received its censor certification ahead of its August 26 theatrical release. The upcoming action thriller has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an 'A' certificate, restricting its theatrical viewing to adult audiences. The board has reportedly not ordered any cuts but has asked the makers to make two minor modifications to the Kannada version of the film. The CBFC cleared Toxic last week, with the certification details listing the Kannada-English film at a runtime of three hours and 12 minutes.
According to the reported certification requirements, two words or phrases in the Kannada version, "Tevidiya Paiya" and "Tevidiya Pulla", have been ordered to be muted or replaced. Corresponding changes are also required in the English subtitles. Apart from these modifications, the film has reportedly received clearance without any other cuts. The film will also carry mandatory anti-smoking and anti-drinking health warnings. The 'A' certificate means that Toxic will be available for theatrical viewing only to adults. The certification comes shortly before the film's scheduled release, allowing the makers to proceed with the final promotional and distribution preparations for its August 26 debut.
Toxic has also received an adult classification in the United Kingdom. However, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has flagged several aspects of the film's content in its classification details. Violence, injury detail and sex were given the highest rating of five out of five, while threat and horror, language, drugs, sexual violence and sexual threat, as well as suicide and self-harm, were each rated four out of five. The classification reflects the mature themes and content expected in the film. Yash has previously made it clear that Toxic was designed specifically for an adult audience.

During an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, the actor pointed to the film's tagline, "A Fairytale for Grown-ups", as an indication of its intended audience. He said children should not watch the film and stressed that it was not made for younger viewers. Yash also said adults could decide what they wanted to watch and what they chose to take away from the story. The actor has also explained that the film's narrative required his character to be explored through different layers. According to Yash, every aspect of the character becomes important as the story progresses, and those elements need to be presented effectively for the narrative to work.
His comments have reinforced the film's positioning as a mature action drama rather than a conventional family-oriented commercial release. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features an ensemble cast that includes Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles. The film has generated considerable interest ahead of its theatrical release, particularly because of Yash's return to the big screen following his previous major success. With the CBFC certification now secured after two minor modifications, Toxic is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 26 with an adults-only classification.
