Spider-Man: Brand New Day has recorded a historic opening at the Indian box office, becoming the biggest-opening Hollywood film ever in the country. Starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) release grossed Rs 72.44 crore on its first day in India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film also registered an India net collection of Rs 60.60 crore, setting a new benchmark for Hollywood releases in the domestic market.
With its opening-day performance, the superhero film surpassed the previous records held by Avengers: Endgame and Avatar: The Way of Water. Avengers: Endgame had opened with a gross collection of Rs 65 crore (Rs 53.60 crore net), while Avatar: The Way of Water collected Rs 48.75 crore gross (Rs 40.30 crore net) on its first day in India. The latest Spider-Man instalment also outperformed several major Indian films, including Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which grossed Rs 67.19 crore on its opening day, and Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar. Among recent releases, only Ranbir Kapoor's Animal recorded a higher opening-day gross of Rs 76.10 crore.
The film maintained strong occupancy throughout its opening day, reflecting consistent audience interest across the country. According to Sacnilk, the overall occupancy stood at 56.58 per cent on Thursday. Morning shows recorded 51.22 per cent occupancy, which remained stable during the afternoon before increasing to 58.78 per cent in the evening and peaking at 65.11 per cent during the night shows. The performance was achieved without the support of block bookings, highlighting strong organic demand.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now expected to challenge the lifetime box office records for Hollywood films in India if it sustains its momentum over the coming weeks. The current record is held by Avatar: The Way of Water with a lifetime collection of Rs 477.50 crore, followed by Avengers: Endgame at Rs 445 crore. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, the film has also crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark worldwide shortly after its release. It was released in India on July 30, a day ahead of its release in the United States.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the fourth standalone Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland in the lead role and the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Alongside Holland and Zendaya, the film features Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei and Mark Ruffalo. It serves as the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), with Cretton taking over directing duties from Jon Watts.
