Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has called buying his family residence ‘Mannat’ was one of the hardest things he has done in his life, coming as it did off a deep longing for a home after losing both his parents early in life.
As the ‘King of Bollywood’ and his family are all set to move out of his Rs 200 crore iconic Mumbai residence temporarily to make way for a two-year-long renovation, a throwback video has emerged on social media where Shah Rukh revealed the challenges of acquiring Mannat, calling it “one of the most difficult things I’ve done in my life.”
Recalling his deep longing for a home after losing his parents, he admitted, “I have a house fetish. I want a house. I have always wanted a house.” His dream finally came true when he started a family. “When I had kids, I got this house. It’s my family’s house.”
Shah Rukh has ensured that Mannat remains a permanent fixture in his family’s legacy. “We took a decision, we’ll always live in Bombay. So my great-grandchildren are going to live in this house like some old Parsi family.” For him, it represents a place of security. “My office, if there was a problem, they can take it away. My studio, they can take it away. But my house is for the security of my wife, my sister, and my two children.”
The actor has reportedly leased four floors in a luxury apartment complex in Bandra’s Pali Hill, where he will stay for the next two years while ‘Mannat’ undergoes extensive renovation. However, the renovation has been caught in a legal tangle with a social activist challenging the clearances given to the project in the National Green Tribunal. With the next hearing set for April 23, the tribunal will review any submitted evidence before deciding whether to intervene in the renovation plans.
Beyond material wealth, Mannat holds spiritual significance for the actor. “Children should know about the value of God, whether it’s a Hindu God or a Muslim God. So next to Ganesh and Lakshmi, we have the Quran also there. It makes me feel very emotional.”
The superstar has also set household rules, including a strict no-phone-call policy inside Mannat, except in private spaces like the bathroom.
As he continues his cinematic journey, fans eagerly await ‘King’, his upcoming film with daughter Suhana Khan, further cementing his legacy both on and off-screen.
