Actor Rakesh Bedi has addressed ongoing online speculation surrounding filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar, dismissing rumours that the film’s script originated from the Prime Minister’s Office and offering insights into the creative process behind its humour and narrative twists. Bedi made the remarks during a recent appearance at the Amrit Ratna 2026 summit in New Delhi, where he spoke about his role in the franchise and the development of his character, Jameel Jamali.
The actor said he was aware of his character’s eventual fate from the very beginning, including the major narrative twist that was kept secret until the climax of the film. The veteran actor, who has seen renewed popularity following his performance in the franchise, noted that his character was designed as an Indian intelligence operative who infiltrates Pakistan’s political system. According to him, the reveal that he is actually an Indian agent was deliberately withheld to preserve the suspense and impact of the storyline.
Bedi also revealed that some of the comedic elements in the otherwise intense spy thriller were his own creative suggestion. He said that director Aditya Dhar was initially hesitant about incorporating humour into a high-stakes action narrative, but eventually agreed to include lighter moments that later gained traction with audiences and went viral online. Addressing the circulating claims that the script for Dhurandhar had links to the Prime Minister’s Office, Bedi responded to the speculation in a dismissive manner, indicating that such rumours were unfounded and not connected to the film’s actual creative process.

He did not elaborate further but implied that the story originated purely from the writers and filmmakers involved. The discussion has added another layer to the ongoing public interest in Dhurandhar, which has drawn attention for its blend of action, political espionage, and unexpected humour. The film, led by Ranveer Singh, has generated strong audience reactions, particularly for its tonal shifts and narrative structure.
Industry observers note that such rumours often circulate around high-profile political or espionage-themed films, especially when they intersect with real-world geopolitical sensitivities. However, there has been no official confirmation or evidence supporting claims of governmental involvement in the script’s development. As the franchise continues to gain traction, cast members’ interviews and behind-the-scenes revelations have further fueled audience curiosity about the creative decisions shaping its story and tone.
