With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections officially announced, political activity across the state has intensified, particularly around alliance negotiations and campaign strategies. Union Minister and Tamil Nadu BJP election in-charge Piyush Goyal is scheduled to arrive in Chennai on March 19, marking a crucial phase in ongoing seat-sharing talks between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
Sources indicate that discussions between the AIADMK and BJP have reached the final stages and are expected to conclude within the next one or two days. The talks are being closely monitored, as both parties aim to strike a balance that reflects their electoral strengths and strategic priorities ahead of the high-stakes polls.
As part of the consultations, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is scheduled to meet Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran today. The meeting is considered pivotal in resolving remaining differences and finalising the contours of the alliance agreement. Reports suggest that a formal seat-sharing pact could be signed on March 20.

With the nomination process set to begin on March 30, political parties face pressure to finalise alliances and announce candidates promptly. According to sources, the BJP is likely to secure at least 30 seats as part of the coalition. The party is also keen to contest several high-profile urban constituencies in Chennai, including Velachery, Mylapore, and T. Nagar, which are seen as strategically important due to their demographics and electoral visibility.
The arrival of Piyush Goyal is expected to be a decisive step in cementing the alliance structure and ensuring coordination between the BJP’s central leadership and its Tamil Nadu unit. His visit is also anticipated to energise the party’s campaign and provide strategic guidance as preparations accelerate.
With timelines tightening and political stakes rising, Chennai has become the focal point for key decisions on seat allocation and alliance dynamics. The outcomes of these discussions are likely to shape the campaign strategies and set the stage for an intense electoral contest in the state.
