Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves is reportedly in talks to star in a new live-action and animation hybrid Lego film being developed by Universal Pictures, marking a fresh addition to the expanding Lego cinematic universe. The project is said to bring a new visual style to the franchise by blending real-world footage with animation, offering a different cinematic approach compared to earlier entries.
According to reports cited by industry publication Deadline, the film will be directed by Josh Cooley, best known for his work on Toy Story 4. Reeves and Cooley have previously collaborated, with the actor voicing Duke Caboom in the 2019 animated film, which strengthened their working relationship ahead of this new project.
Insiders suggest that the studio spent considerable time developing the project with multiple writers and directors before shaping it around Reeves. Reports indicate that a character was specifically created with the actor in mind, and after several rounds of discussions and creative exchanges, Reeves reportedly expressed interest and began engaging more closely with the studio’s vision.

Universal Pictures subsequently brought Josh Cooley on board to pitch his interpretation of the film, which reportedly impressed Reeves and helped move the project forward. While final confirmation is still pending, sources suggest that negotiations are actively underway and progressing positively.
Details regarding the storyline and Reeves’ character have not yet been disclosed. However, the film is expected to represent a new creative direction for the Lego franchise, which previously saw major success with The Lego Movie in 2014 and its sequel released in 2019 under Warner Bros.
Beyond this potential project, Reeves has recently expanded his voice acting portfolio, including roles in Sonic the Hedgehog films and video games such as Cyberpunk 2077, as well as animated features like DC League of Super-Pets. His involvement in the upcoming Lego project, if finalised, would further cement his growing presence in animated and hybrid film productions.
