Filmmaker Karan Johar has shared his review of The Devil Wears Prada 2, saying the sequel made him admire Meryl Streep even more. Karan reflected on how the original film remains deeply connected to his memories, while the second part feels more relevant to today’s world by exploring the decline of print journalism and the rapid rise of digital media. He described the experience as emotional, stylish and thought-provoking.
Karan attended a special screening of the sequel to the 2006 hit starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep. Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, he said nostalgia played a major role in his excitement, as the first film still holds a special place in his heart. He added that revisiting beloved characters like Andy, Nigel, Emily and Miranda was a memorable cinematic experience.
The filmmaker said he walked out of the theatre “more in love with Meryl Streep,” praising her screen presence and commanding performance once again. He also said he now better understands Miranda Priestly’s relentless pursuit of excellence, perfection and high standards, even if the character can appear harsh, intimidating and overly judgmental.

Karan noted that Miranda Priestly may be a tough leader, but her personality also reflects discipline, ambition and a refusal to accept mediocrity. He suggested that with time and experience, viewers may see the character differently than they did years ago. According to him, the sequel adds maturity and a modern perspective to the iconic story.
While praising the new film, Karan made it clear that he did not want to compare it directly with the original, saying the first movie carries unmatched emotional value and nostalgia. Still, he indicated that The Devil Wears Prada 2 successfully brings back the magic of the franchise while addressing the changing media landscape of the modern era.
