Actors Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha have opened up about the unusual circumstances surrounding their interfaith marriage, revealing how the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to dramatically alter their wedding plans. Speaking on Shekhar Suman’s YouTube show *Shekhar Tonite*, Ali recalled that what was intended to be a carefully planned court marriage quickly turned into a rushed affair after authorities warned that an imminent nationwide lockdown would halt all official proceedings.
Ali explained that the couple had completed the formalities required for a court marriage, including registering their intent to marry a month in advance. As part of the legal process, the notice was publicly displayed, which eventually attracted media attention and led to reports about their wedding plans. The actors had chosen a date that would allow their families to attend the ceremony, but those arrangements were suddenly disrupted when they received an unexpected call from the court shortly before the lockdown was imposed.
According to Ali, court officials informed them that operations would be suspended from the following day due to the rapidly escalating pandemic and advised them to complete the marriage immediately if they wished to proceed. The unexpected development left the couple scrambling to organize witnesses and complete the legal formalities at short notice. Despite the challenges, they managed to register their marriage just before restrictions came into effect, ensuring that the legal ceremony could take place without further delay.
