Nissan is preparing to strengthen its presence in India's fast-growing midsize SUV segment with the launch of the all-new Tekton, a model that will rival established players such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. The SUV, which is based on the Renault Duster platform, is scheduled to make its global debut on July 9, 2026, and is expected to arrive in Indian showrooms within a few months of its unveiling.
The Nissan Tekton will feature a distinct design language inspired by the flagship Nissan Patrol SUV. The front fascia is expected to include LED headlamps, connected LED daytime running lights, a full-width illuminated grille element and a muscular bonnet carrying prominent Tekton branding. Other styling highlights are likely to include alloy wheels, roof spoiler, LED tail lamps, rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar and a rugged SUV stance aimed at attracting urban buyers.
Under the hood, the Tekton is expected to share its powertrain options with the Renault Duster. Lower variants are likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while higher trims may receive a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit. Both manual and automatic transmission options are expected to be offered. While Nissan has not officially confirmed a hybrid version for India, industry expectations suggest a strong-hybrid variant could arrive later, following the launch of Renault's hybrid Duster.
The SUV is expected to offer a feature-rich cabin with equipment such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver's display, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable seats, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging and a premium sound system. Nissan is also likely to equip the vehicle with multiple drive modes, steering modes and connected-car technology to enhance the ownership experience.
Safety is expected to be a major focus area for the Tekton. Higher variants are likely to feature an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package that may include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Other expected safety features include six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.
Nissan is expected to price the Tekton competitively, with estimates suggesting a starting price of around ₹11 lakh and extending up to ₹19 lakh for top-spec variants. Initially, the SUV will be offered as a five-seater model, though Nissan has already confirmed plans for a larger three-row SUV, expected to be based on the Renault Boreal platform and scheduled for launch in 2027. With modern styling, advanced technology and multiple powertrain options, the Tekton is set to become a key product in Nissan India's growth strategy.
