Kia has officially pulled the covers off the K4 Sportswagon, expanding its popular compact lineup with a versatile estate body style tailored for European buyers who crave practicality without sacrificing style. This long-roof version joins the existing sedan and hatchback, positioning itself as a direct rival to models like the Volkswagen Golf Estate and Skoda Octavia Combi. Built in Mexico and set for launch later in 2026 (marketed as a 2027 model in some markets), the Sportswagon brings fresh appeal to the wagon segment amid the dominance of SUVs.
The design maintains the K4’s bold front fascia with sharp LED lighting, while the extended rear delivers a sleek, sporty profile with hidden rear door handles and an upswept beltline. It measures about 10 inches longer than the hatchback, offering impressive cargo capacity: up to 604 liters (21.3 cubic feet) behind the rear seats—5.8 cubic feet more than the hatch—and expanding to 1,439 liters (50.8 cubic feet) with seats folded.
Powertrain options start with a frugal 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder (113 hp) available with a six-speed manual— a rare treat in today’s market—or a mild-hybrid setup with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. For more punch, a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder delivers up to 177 hp, paired exclusively with the DCT. A full hybrid variant is slated to arrive later in the year, promising even better efficiency. The wagon emphasizes everyday usability with features like a standard electric tailgate and advanced driver aids.

While U.S. buyers will have to settle for the upcoming K4 Hatchback (which offers similar long-roof vibes), the Sportswagon highlights Kia’s commitment to diverse body styles in regions that still love estates. With its blend of modern tech, generous space, and engaging options like the manual gearbox, this could revive interest in compact wagons. Full pricing and detailed specs are expected soon—watch this space for more updates!
