WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow Android users to edit captions on their status updates after they have been posted. The feature is expected to help users correct spelling mistakes, modify text, or make changes to their status captions without deleting and reposting the entire update.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the status caption editing option is currently available to select beta testers using WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.30.1. The feature is designed to provide users with more flexibility while sharing photos, videos, or text-based status updates on the messaging platform.
The reported update will allow users to edit their status captions through two different methods. Users may find a new “Edit Caption” option in the menu section that displays their shared status updates. Another option will reportedly appear through a small pencil icon placed next to the caption, allowing quick modifications without reopening the status.

The editing option will reportedly remain available for up to 15 minutes after a status is posted. Once this time period expires, users will no longer be able to make changes to the caption. Unlike edited messages, which display an “Edited” label on WhatsApp chats, edited status captions are expected to appear without any visible indication that changes were made.
The feature is currently being tested among a limited group of Android beta users through the Google Play Store. WhatsApp is expected to expand access to more users in the coming weeks if testing results remain positive.
The introduction of status caption editing would add another convenience feature to WhatsApp’s growing set of editing and privacy tools. The update could make it easier for users to manage their shared content while reducing the need to delete and recreate status updates due to minor mistakes or last-minute changes.
