Apple has expanded its smartphone lineup with the launch of the iPhone 17e, positioning it as a more affordable alternative to the standard iPhone 17. The new model is designed for users seeking access to Apple’s ecosystem at a relatively lower entry price while still benefiting from the company’s latest hardware and software features. Both devices are powered by the A19 chipset and support Apple Intelligence capabilities, but the iPhone 17 introduces several premium enhancements across display, camera, and battery performance.
In India, the iPhone 17e starts at Rs 64,900 for the 256GB variant, while the 512GB model is priced at Rs 84,900. The device is currently available for pre-orders and will go on sale from March 11 through Apple’s official website and authorised retail partners. In comparison, the iPhone 17 is priced at Rs 82,900 for the 256GB version, with the 512GB option costing Rs 102,900, reflecting its upgraded feature set and positioning in the lineup.
Design-wise, both smartphones share a similar aesthetic, featuring an aluminium frame, glass back, and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The iPhone 17e measures 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8mm and weighs 169g, while the slightly larger iPhone 17 measures 149.6 x 71.5 x 7.95mm and weighs 177g. Both models come with Ceramic Shield² protection on the front. The iPhone 17e is offered in black, soft pink, and white finishes, whereas the iPhone 17 is available in lavender, mist blue, sage, white, and black.

The display marks a key point of difference between the two devices. The iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate, 1,170 x 2,532 pixel resolution, True Tone support, and up to 800 nits of brightness. The iPhone 17, on the other hand, sports a larger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with ProMotion technology, enabling refresh rates up to 120Hz. It also includes an always-on display and can reach up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, offering a more advanced visual experience.
In terms of performance, both phones run on the A19 chip paired with a 16-core Neural Engine and ship with iOS 26. The iPhone 17e comes with 8GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB and 512GB, matching the base storage configuration of the iPhone 17. Camera capabilities differ notably, with the iPhone 17e featuring a single 48-megapixel rear camera and a 12-megapixel TrueDepth front camera, while the iPhone 17 offers a dual 48-megapixel rear camera system, including an ultra-wide lens with macro support, and enhanced front camera features. Battery life is rated at up to 26 hours of video playback for the iPhone 17e and up to 30 hours for the iPhone 17, with the latter also supporting faster charging speeds, reinforcing its premium positioning.
