Google is rolling out several new features for Gemini Notebook, expanding its tools for students and learners across the web and mobile apps. The update introduces lecture recording, voice conversations with notebooks and more personalised study materials. Google said the features will be released over the coming weeks, alongside expanded quiz options and broader language support for Short Video Overviews.

The Gemini Notebook mobile apps will receive an audio recorder that allows users to capture lectures, personal thoughts and other spoken material directly within their notebooks. Recordings will appear alongside other sources and can be edited, cited and referenced during notebook chats. The company said the feature is designed to make recorded information easier to organise and incorporate into study sessions.

Google is also introducing voice chat for Gemini Notebook on mobile, allowing users to ask questions and receive step-by-step assistance based on the sources stored in their notebooks. The feature will support nearly 100 languages and will allow users to interrupt while the conversation is taking place. Voice chat is initially rolling out to Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and above, with availability expected to expand to Google AI Pro subscribers and other users.

The update also adds interactive learning overviews to the Reports section, combining summaries with study materials such as infographics, quizzes and flashcards. Gemini Notebook will support short-answer, multiple-choice, multiple-select and fill-in-the-blank questions. Users can review quiz and flashcard performance through notebook chat, identify areas requiring more attention and modify questions in their study materials.

Short Video Overviews are also being expanded to more than 80 languages. Gemini Notebook can generate approximately 60-second educational videos featuring narration and animations covering subjects such as formulas, diagrams and scientific concepts. Google is additionally offering eligible college students in the US one year of Google AI Pro at no cost, while eligible students in more than 140 other markets can receive Google AI Plus free for 12 months. The company said the student offers and new Notebook features will become available according to regional and eligibility requirements.
