Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking a major change to how users interact with the company’s professional laptops. The new models feature tandem OLED displays, touch controls and M5 Pro or M5 Max processors, alongside upgraded connectivity and design features. The launch brings direct screen interaction to the MacBook Pro range, allowing users to tap, scroll and zoom without relying entirely on a trackpad. The laptops are aimed primarily at professionals and creators who need high processing power for demanding workloads.
The new display, which Apple calls “PROLED XDR”, uses a tandem OLED panel with deeper contrast, peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits and a 120Hz refresh rate. Touch input allows users to interact directly with designs, video-editing timelines and virtual instruments. These capabilities could be particularly useful for creative work that benefits from direct manipulation on the screen. The touch display is one of the central changes to the MacBook Pro, which has traditionally relied on a keyboard and trackpad for navigation.
In India, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro chip starts at ₹3,49,900, while the 16-inch version starts at ₹4,09,900. Models equipped with the more powerful M5 Max chip begin at ₹5,49,900 for the 14-inch variant and ₹5,89,900 for the 16-inch model. Pre-orders opened on October 28, with retail availability scheduled to begin on November 9. The pricing places the new laptops firmly in the premium segment, particularly for users who do not require their advanced processing and display capabilities.

The laptops are powered by Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, designed to handle demanding tasks such as video production, 3D design and running AI tools on the device. Buyers can configure storage up to 16TB, while Apple claims battery life of up to 24 hours. The combination of high-performance processors and large storage options is intended to meet the needs of professionals working with resource-intensive applications and large files.
Apple has also replaced the traditional display notch with Dynamic Island, bringing an interface feature associated with its iPhones to the MacBook Pro. It can provide access to Spotlight search, real-time updates and Siri, while touch controls allow users to manage activities such as music playback, calls and AirDrop transfers. The redesigned laptops are described as thinner and lighter than previous models, and the iconic glowing Apple logo has reportedly returned to the lid.
Connectivity and multimedia features include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack, along with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support. The laptops also feature a 12-megapixel Center Stage webcam and a six-speaker system that Apple says delivers 50 per cent deeper bass. With prices starting at ₹3,49,900, the touchscreen MacBook Pro is positioned as a substantial investment for professionals seeking upgraded display technology, processing power and direct touch interaction.
