At least seven people, including the suspected shooter, were killed in a series of shootings across multiple locations in Muscatine, Iowa, in what authorities have described as an apparent domestic-related dispute. Police said the incident involved shootings at two residences and a business on Monday afternoon.
According to the Muscatine Police Department, officers were first dispatched at approximately 12:12 pm to a residence on Park Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon entering the home, responding officers and emergency personnel discovered four individuals with gunshot wounds inside the property. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later identified the suspected shooter as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland of Muscatine. Police said he had left the initial scene before law enforcement arrived. He was subsequently located near a pedestrian bridge with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Despite receiving immediate medical assistance from officers and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

As the investigation continued, authorities discovered additional victims at separate locations. Two more men were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds—one at a residence on Mill Street and another at a business on Grandview Avenue. Police said these findings expanded the scope of the case beyond the initial crime scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute, with authorities stating that all victims were believed to be family members of the suspect. Officials have not yet released the identities or ages of those killed. Law enforcement agencies said further inquiry is underway to determine the full sequence of events and motive.
Police added that additional details remain under review, and the case is still being actively investigated. Reports from authorities also indicate that the suspect had a prior criminal record, though further information has not been formally disclosed.
