Meta Platforms has introduced a new suite of artificial intelligence features for its Facebook platform, including an “AI Mode” search function and expanded AI-powered photo editing tools. The rollout, announced in a company blog post on Tuesday, is part of Meta’s broader push to integrate generative AI across its social media ecosystem.
The newly launched “AI Mode” is designed to generate responses by drawing on public content across Facebook and other Meta-owned platforms, including Groups and Reels. According to the company, the feature aims to provide users with “real perspectives and experiences” rather than traditional search results, positioning it as a more conversational and personalised way to discover information on the platform.
Meta said the AI Mode feature is powered by its proprietary “Muse Spark” model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs. The system aggregates posts, comments, and user-generated content to answer queries, similar in concept to AI-driven search tools being introduced by other technology companies. However, experts have raised concerns that relying heavily on social media content could increase the risk of outdated or inaccurate information appearing in responses, given the absence of strict editorial verification.

Alongside the search upgrade, Meta has also expanded its AI photo editing capabilities. Users will now be able to modify images using artificial intelligence, including changing clothing, hairstyles, and accessories. The update also introduces collage-style templates and AI-generated video montage features, aimed at making content creation faster and more accessible for everyday users.
The company stated that these tools are intended to help users “get more done with less effort,” whether by generating content for sharing or transforming simple ideas into more polished visual formats. The integration of AI editing tools reflects Meta’s strategy of embedding generative AI directly into core user experiences across its platforms.
The rollout of AI Mode and related features places Meta in direct competition with other tech companies advancing AI-powered search and content generation tools. While the company highlights enhanced creativity and personalization as key benefits, the effectiveness and reliability of AI-generated responses based on social media content are expected to remain a subject of scrutiny as adoption expands.
