Apple’s Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4 bring their biggest upgrades through improved health sensors, faster processing, longer battery life and expanded artificial intelligence features, while retaining familiar designs. The new models focus on making health tracking more detailed and everyday interactions more responsive rather than introducing a complete visual redesign. Updated materials and colour options provide some changes to their appearance, but the main improvements lie in the hardware and watchOS 27 software experience.
The Watch Series 12 is available in aluminium, titanium and ceramic finishes, with prices starting at ₹56,900, ₹99,900 and ₹1,24,900, respectively. The aluminium model is offered in Dark Bronze, while Natural titanium and Pearl White ceramic are among the highlighted options. The Watch Ultra 4 retains its 49mm aerospace-grade titanium case and is available in Black and Natural finishes. Its rugged construction and activity-focused features continue to distinguish it from the standard Apple Watch lineup.
Health monitoring receives a significant upgrade through a redesigned sensing system on both watches. The updated arrangement includes optical and electrical sensors alongside larger, more power-efficient green LEDs. Heart rate readings are recorded every five seconds, while heart rate variability measurements are taken every five minutes, providing more frequent information about the wearer’s condition. The increased volume of data is intended to support more detailed insights through the Health app, including improved visibility into daily patterns and potential changes in health indicators.

Performance improvements come from the new S11 chip, built using a 2-nanometre process, alongside 4GB of memory, double the 2GB available in the previous generation. The upgraded CPU, GPU and Neural Engine contribute to a more responsive interface and provide additional capacity for watchOS 27 and applications. Battery performance has also improved. The Watch Series 12 can deliver around two additional hours of workout tracking compared with its predecessor, while a 15-minute charge can provide up to 12 hours of wear time. The Watch Ultra 4 offers up to 18 hours of wear time from a 15-minute charge, with mixed usage lasting almost three days in the reviewer's experience.
The Ultra 4 retains features designed for outdoor activities and demanding workouts, including GPS-based Backtrack navigation, diving metrics, running power, cadence and training-load information. These tools can help users retrace routes, assess workout intensity and understand how exercise affects their bodies over time. Meanwhile, changes to the Health and Fitness apps introduce more detailed summaries, including a full-day view in the Vitals section. Further updates to the Health experience are expected later in the year, potentially expanding the insights available to users.
Artificial intelligence is another part of the upgrade, with an expanded Siri experience and audio-related features planned for availability in the near future. Live Recap is designed to transcribe the preceding 15 seconds of a conversation, while Siri Recap and personal-context features aim to make interactions more useful. Apple executives said the Live Recap feature processes microphone and audio intelligence data on the device through the S11 chip’s Secure Enclave. According to the company, the encrypted data is temporary and continually overwritten rather than saved as a file. Taken together, the new sensors, faster hardware, improved battery performance and planned AI features make the Series 12 and Ultra 4 substantial upgrades despite their largely unchanged external designs.
